Planning a proposal with European flair but a more friendly budget? Melissa Lisell, executive vice president of Lisell Travel, suggests considering the enchanting town of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Greece is a popular spot for proposals, with its gorgeous scenery and rich heritage. As an alternative, try lesser-known Albania, says Sherry Jenkins, owner of Jenkins Travel. The country offers beautiful beaches, historic sites and a rich cultural experience. It will also be easier on the budget than the most visited destinations in neighboring Greece.

As for the big day, instead of a busy Cancun destination wedding, consider Cartagena, Colombia. Michelle Bouzek, owner of Vacations in Paradise, says you'll still have the tropical, scenic Caribbean setting and the bonus of historic, colorful architecture as a romantic backdrop. The vibrant coastal city is emerging as an exciting location for nuptials, with its character and charm as well as savings from a favorable exchange rate.

For couples dreaming of a wedding inspired by Tuscany without the premium price, Lisell suggests considering the Dominican Republic. In Altos de Chavón, a captivating 16th-century Mediterranean-style village, your love story could unfold amidst cobblestone streets, breathtaking views, and a touch of cinematic magic (yes, it's been featured in major movies).

When it comes to planning an unforgettable honeymoon, a unique, cost-effective alternative to the Maldives with overwater bungalows and tropical sunshine is Bocas del Toro, Panama. This beautiful Caribbean archipelago allows couples to experience luxury living on crystal-clear turquoise waters. If Paris isn't in the cards, head to Buenos Aires. Jenkins says it is often likened to Paris for its rich culture, charming architecture and romantic ambiance. You can have a similar feel and still go somewhere international—where not many others have ventured—yet it can be more affordable compared to the French capital.
